TRILL

GETTIN ready...
last night we went to boston to see a show. i had never even heard of bus driver before, but hutch assured me that i would really enjoy him....he was right. bus driver is a one man act from L.A., the energy he put on stage was enviable. he sounds like a mix of dub and hip hop, but he had samples of radiohead and a few other indie favs wrapped up in there. he put all of the energy he had into the performance- julting and jerking back and forth while he splattered sweat all over the audience and asked us to chant, "bus driver, bus driver!!!" fer real though, the guy can put on a real good show, i advise all to check him out on myspace. his mini fro is very appealing as well. dizzee rascal followed with another engaging act. i never realized how many bostonians were into the dizzee, this, as hutch informed me, was his first U.S. tour as he resides in the fabulous United Kingdom. he was wearing a particularly glitzy t-shirt, with the word "TRILL" on it under the cuban flag which was all colored rhinestones.....it was just what i had always dreamed it would be.
here are some pics from the excursion, i was a bit drunk and completely exhausted so i apologize completely for the quality and lack of performance pics, i was rather disappointed by the turnout, pretty much all white kids in their early twenties. but then again, it is boston afterall.

feel the music

Chan Marshall....

aaaaaaaaaaaaah. graduate school is disgusting, i really wouldnt wish it on anyone. i was supposed to attend a fabulous brunch today, but instead am cooped up in my apartment on my computer working on a final exam for my psychopathology class,,, drinking jasmine green tea and listening to cat power on vinyl. her album, free is so damn good. i think it is def the most under-recognized albums; especially since the lovely eddie veder does back up vocals on one of the songs which makes me tear up everytime. i am excited for tonight though, it will be a good distraction from my papers. hutch and i are going to boston to see dizzee rascal, el-p and bus driver. i LOVE dizzee rascal.
i was thinking the other day about a couple of my inspirations for style that have pretty much been constants in my mind for awhile now. you know how when you see someone you get a sort of warmth inside? i feel like that when i think of this woman. there will be more to come, but for now, Erykah Badu. you are YOU.
(i realize that my blog is a bit lacking in the inspiration for the boys, it will come.....right now i just need to be selfish and fulfill my own needs)

"You need to pick yo afro daddy because its flat on one side.

Lately

1. friday: recovered from a massive hangover, discovered the most fabulous jumper at the thrift store, white with rust colored stripes. it doesnt zip all the way up the back, but i will be damned if i don't wear it every single day.
2. saturday: bought some bamboo blinds that ended up being too short for my window. i really need to make a trip to ikea soon.
most importantly, watched a movie that has now made it into a close second in my list of top favorite movies, "EAGLE VS. SHARK," which is a New Zealand made romantic comedy about a girl named Lily, a shy, wistful girl, a songwriter when no one is listening, and an unpopular cashier at a fast food restaurant who has a crush from afar on Jarrod, a self-assured eccentric geek who works in a video game store. They meet at a "dress as your favorite animal party" (which i will be sure to have at some point in the near future. the music in it is thoughtful and the guy in it is from the show flight of the conchords. i really and truly implore you to all see it immediately, if you trust me at all.

monday, monday............

so... went to boston on saturday for an anti war conference. it made me feel rejuvenated, made me feel anger at the same time. this war has gone on for FIVE years now, FIVE, that's a serious thing. doesnt it make anyone crazy that the gas prices are rapidly reaching four dollars a gallon!!!!!!!! jesus. it makes me crazy, for every gallon of gas i could be purchasing a record from the flea market.
being at the conference made me think about my long long time icons. a product of two hippies, my parents had an extensive record collection when i was growing up; ranging from peter tosh to peter, paul and mary. my dad grew marijuana in the vegetable garden and since we lived in the middle of nowhere in NH no one cared. my mom was out protesting the vietnam war in washington and was skeptical about bringing children into a world that was NOT peaceful. i grew up on vegetables and carob chips. babysitters hated coming to our house because my mom had none of the token teenage junk food that teenagers live off of. i would listen to my dad belt out tunes on his harmonica and look for hours at various record covers. i had fashion icons then too and most of them are still the same now.....i figured that since i can be inspired by a movement,, that you can too.
