NATIVE AMerican

Wampum beads

chris and i ventured out to Ledyard saturday to visit the Mashantucket Pequot Museum, very close to scary Foxwoods. YUCK. i had to visit the museum as an assignment for my Multicultural Counseling Class. It turns out that i was actually pleasantly surprised as to how enjoyable the museum was. A change of pace as far as the normal weekend activities that i have been partaking in lately;;; thriftshopping, flea marketing, and working on homework. the museum was informative and visually stimulating. chris and i were intrigued by the narrative on wampum beads, which were beads that the Pequot people made out of different varieties of shells. the Pequot later discovered that the dutch really valued their wampum beads and beaver pelts and began trading them for various industrialized gifts. there was a display of the Pequot village that you could walk through as well. i was in awe of the Pequot's simple fashion sense and was greatly inspired as well. on our way out we stopped by the gift shop and were pleasantly greeted by a vast array of moccasins of all colors and styles, all 75% off. DREAMY.
